New I-9 Form

Did you know that earlier this week companies are supposed to be utilizing a new I-9 form? Wait? What? There's a new I-9 form? Yes, there is a new I-9 form! While changes or potential changes to minimum wage, salary determination and healthcare laws get a lot of news coverage, and rightfully so, this updated form was not covered as much and is supposed to be used beginning January 22, 2017.  

The new "smart" I-9 is currently only compatible with Adobe and was made with the intention of providing companies and employees better guidance on how to correctly fill out this important form. And why is it so important? If your company was to get audited and you don't have I-9's filled out correctly or don't have employees fill them out at all, you could be looking at penalties between $216 and and $2,156!!! There are higher penalties for knowingly hiring illegal immigrants, committing document fraud and more.
