2024 Recap: New Features, Regulatory Updates, and Exciting Upgrades

What an exciting year 2024 was for us in the payroll world and for you, as Future Systems clients! With new regulations being enacted and then put on hold, new services added for our clients, updates to our HR software, and the release of the new employee portal website/app, it’s been a busy year!

2024 Regulatory Updates

Early in 2024, it was announced that non-competes would soon be illegal and that the salary threshold for overtime-exempt employees would be going up substantially. While legal holds were put on these new laws at various times throughout the year, they were finally struck down in courts. Additionally, the Corporate Transparency Act, which would have required additional reporting under the Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) rule, was ruled likely unconstitutional in early December. While these rulings could be appealed or changes made to the regulations before they are enacted, please know that Future Systems will always stay informed about changes in payroll laws and regulations and communicate these to our clients in a timely manner.

New Services to Support Your Business

Future Systems has also been busy adding services that have been highly beneficial for our clients. Over the past year, we’ve introduced automated 401(k) file submissions with Detamoov, employee employment verifications through Equifax, Earned Wage Access for your employees via ZayZoon, and the Employee Navigator integration to sync benefits with your benefits providers. Most of these new services were added in response to client demand, and we’re constantly seeking new solutions to support you. As we plan for more innovations in 2025, please don’t hesitate to share your suggestions for services you’d like us to offer.

A Fresh Look: The New Employee Portal

After years of client inquiries about updating the Employee Self-Serve site with new graphics or offering an app, the new Employee Portal was released! With minimal issues, over 95% of our clients have been successfully upgraded to the new portal, which has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Our HR system also saw updates, including refreshed graphics, a redesigned homepage layout, and numerous back-end improvements to support enhancements planned for the coming year.
